đź’ What is neuroinclusivity, and what does it have to do with housing?

🧠 Neuroinclusivity refers to creating an environment or culture that embraces and accommodates all cognitive profiles, including both neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals. It is a commitment to ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their cognitive differences, feel valued, respected, and included in all aspects of society, including education, the workplace, and the community.

🏡 Creating housing with neuroinclusivity in mind means planning, designing, and building based on the above principles. Then, continuing to foster a neuroinclusive community after the housing is built.

đź’ˇ Soundproofing, non-carpeted floors, soft lighting with dimmer switches, simple layouts with clear sightlines, and organized storage are just a handful of examples of neuroinclusive housing. You may already have these things, or may not care if you have them.

Those who are neurodivergent need things like this to live comfortably, and needs differ between individuals.

Reality is that old buildings often don't have any of these, and new developments will cut soundproofing, dimmers, etc., to minimize costs. This makes finding a comfortable place to live daunting for many neurodivergent people.

We are thankful to live, work, and recreate on the unceded, traditional territories of the Simpcw and Lheidli T'enneh First Nations.

We acknowledge that colonization is not a relic of the past, but is ongoing, and why it’s important to be mindful of that participation.
We recognize that Indigenous peoples contribute to the land amidst broken promises through many gifts and talents.
We celebrate that land by honouring and respecting its history, hoping that others will stand in solidarity with these Nations on the path of reconciliation.
